Michael Hartl

Michael Hartl is a programmer, entrepreneur, and author of RailsSpace: Building a Social Networking Website with Ruby on Rails. Before discovering Rails, he used Zope/Python in a startup he cofounded to produce fantasy sports websites. Previously, he was a physics instructor at the California Institute of Technology, where he received the Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Michael has a penchant for classical music, choral singing, and wines he can't afford. He is also known to toss a disc around from time to time. Michael is a graduate of Harvard College and has a Ph.D. in Physics from Caltech.

Long Nguyen

Long Nguyen

Long Nguyen is an expert in enterprise-scale software configuration management (SCM) and version control. After studying complex systems in graduate school, he applied his experience with computational techniques to manage application development at large organizations as a consultant with OpenMake and as a member of the SCM team at Discover Card.

Long enjoys wearing ironic T-shirts and listens to indie music that Michael isn't hip enough to understand. He is a graduate of Harvard College and has a Ph.D. in Physics from The University of Chicago.
